Emilio cruelty petition

Stop the ongoing inhumane treatment by Emilio, the goatherd,

to his dogs, cats & livestock

  Please sign the petition...

Emilio - the local goatherd on the Torrox road to the right of Gloypat - has a long history of keeping his animals in the most appalling, inhumane conditions; beating them, selling them to make money, harming them and killing them. Multiple community members in varying degrees over the years have been witness to him throttling cats, keeping dogs in crates in the mid-day summer sun, beating and mistreating a variety of dogs he's had, and witnessing his goats with injuries and infections which are never attended to. His livestock and dogs and cats are kept in the most disgusting conditions with no access to clean water or regular food, let alone vaccinated against communicable diseases.

In June this year Paul Tilly, Lisa Hurt Jones, Linsi Phillips and Inés Lôpez, the vet from Naturvets jointly lodged Denuncias with the Guardia Civil when a puppy was rescued from certain death. Upon investigation the Guardia Civil said they witnessed no infractions, but they said that would keep these on file in case there were further issues.

At the moment there are two large dogs, a male and a female in a terrible condition, and four puppies which he has illegally bred to make money. There is no shelter for the dogs and puppies or cats in this cold and rain. The puppies stomachs are engorged, most likely from worms, and they are in a bad state. There are also two cats - a tabby and a black and white tuxedo cat. They all need to be rescued and there is a plan in place for that to happen. There also appears to be some chickens.

Under the EU treaties, animals are recognised as sentient beings, and in consequence, the EU and the Member States must pay due regard to the welfare requirements of animals. There are specific provisions in Spanish Law to address this.  We are hoping that as a community member of Competa, or an animal welfare advocate, you will add your name to this petition for us to present both to the Ayuntamiento of Cómpeta and to the Guardia Civil to advocate against Emlio ever being able to own animals again and for criminal action be taken against him within the provisions of Spanish Law.

Thank you.
